Paper Shamrocks
Hi Susan , I want an idea from you about a topic of a trifold and it should be so unique and interesting plus, it should make my room look anew ??….
Hi Mahirah
Thank you for your question. I think decorating a tri fold room divider with your papercraft supplies is a great project to take on. Home decor is a very personal thing and basing it on your interests could mean you create something very unique to you.
I think decorating such a piece of home decor could be themed on your interests and on what supplies you have on hand to create images about that interest.
Once you know what you truly love to surround yourself with, you will know what direction to take with decorating your tri-fold.
Some of my questions for you are:
- What is your favourite image from nature? Is it a flower, a beetle, a ladybug, trees, clouds, an animal? Or do you prefer city scapes, beaches or forests?
- What is your favourite hobby? Do you play a certain sport, or listen to certain music, or play an instrument? Or is it something else you like and does it have a symbol you could duplicate?
- What is your favourite food/flower/TV character/Actor/musician? Would you like to see any of these interests represented on your tri-fold?
- What is your favourite colour?
- What theme have you already chosen for decorating your room? Are you a traditional or modern person? Do you like pretty or classic decor? Should your tri-fold fit in with your current theme or do you want to do a complete room makeover?
- Do you have a favourite motif, such as a fleur de lis, a pattern such as circles or squares, lines, dots, polka dots? Do you like patterns to be random?
- Do you have any favourite quotes or sayings to live by?
Once you decide what preferences you have and what interests you want to showcase, then look to your supplies for crafting and start creating items for your tri-fold. You may notice a gap in your supplies and need to purchase a couple of new dies for the project or a few new colours.
I suggest thinking about the size of your tri-fold and scaling your motifs to show up on that size. For example, you might want to think about creating a pattern of tiny flowers going from deep red to pink to palest rose then even white. You could make them fit inside another shape such as a circle, letter or a swirl.
Or you may want to create giant paper flowers in your favourite colours and make them big enough to fill up an entire panel and even go outside its borders.
If you choose to use quotes, make them in big enough fonts to be read by anyone in the room. Or if you like mystery, make them smaller fonts so people have to deliberately go closer to read them.
If you like a flat look, consider decoupaging your panels with favourite photos, pictures from magazines, posters or drawings.
If you like a three dimensional look make origami hearts or cranes or bugs that you like and put them amongst your favourite flowers, letting them stand out and pop away from your frames.
Making paper decor means you can change it to reflect the seasons, or your interests may change over time and you may want to make your room look different again. If you think you would like ot change things up throughout the year, think about how you can attach your paper decor with removable fasteners like cling-on hooks or removable tape or Blue tac. Or create decor within a frame that can be hanged on the tri-fold and changed out when you want. Then you can create something new whenever you want.
Remember there are many tutorials on papercraftcentral.com to show you how to make small paper flowers, teddy bears, origami pieces, giant flowers, stars, wreaths, and other thing that you might like to copy or modify to suit your interests and preferences.
Consider who you really are and what you really like, first and foremost. Then whatever you create will be different to any other decor you have ever seen!
Once you have completed your project, I hope you will come back and show us all a few photos of your before and after tri-fold.
Happy crafting
